Ich war fasziniert von der Idee, Astronaut zu werden. Leider wusste ich schon lange, dass es dafür körperliche Voraussetzungen gibt, und eine ausgesprochen gute Sehkraft ist eine davon. Und wie meine Brille verrät, habe ich keine ausgesprochen gute Sehkraft. So hat sich der Wunsch, Astronaut zu werden, ziemlich schnell in nichts aufgelöst. Aber um ehrlich zu sein, man braucht auch spezielle Individuen, die es mit den Belastungen eines Weltraumflugs aufnehmen. Und wenn ich ganz ehrlich bin, bin ich mir nicht sicher, ob ich das Zeug dazu habe.
I was intrigued by the idea of becoming an astronaut. Unfortunately I’ve known for a long time that there are many medical constraints to being an astronaut and having very, very good vision is one of them. And as my glasses give away, I do not have very, very good vision. So, had I wanted to be an astronaut, that went away quickly. But to be honest, it takes a very certain special kind of individual to put up with the rigors of space flight. And if I’m fully honest, I’m not sure I have the right stuff.
